Misclassification of Independent Contractors: The Potholes Are Getting Deeper

Federal and state authorities have identified misclassification of employees as independent contractors as an example of “wage theft”. The U.S. Department of Labor has even suggested that 70% of workers identified as Independent Contractors are classified incorrectly. Recently the National Labor Relations Board concluded that in certain circumstances misclassification can be an unfair labor practice. We’ll take a look at the current status of the Independent Contractor status and offer some practical suggestions on how to deal with this issue.
