Barnes & Thornburg Adds Two Patent Attorneys in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg LLP announced today that Dr. Scott Rothenberger and Jeffrey Stone have joined the firm’s Minneapolis office as partners in the Intellectual Property Department. Rothenberger was previously at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, while Stone served as chair of the patent prosecution group at Winthrop & Weinstine P.A.

Rothenberger, who holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, focuses his practice on patent prosecution and licensing within the pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechnology sectors. He also provides technical and legal support for ongoing intellectual property litigation, and advises clients on patentability, due diligence, and infringement and validity opinions.

Stone’s patent practice spans prosecution (domestic and foreign), patentability opinions, non-infringement opinions, diligence, litigation, licensing, and strategic client counseling. He works in a variety of technology and biotechnology fields, including medical technology and devices, pharmaceutical compositions, drug delivery, optics, biosensors, fluid flow control, precision agriculture, global positioning, and semiconductors.

“Today’s pharmaceutical industry is more competitive, more global, and more regulated than ever before,” said Connie Lahn, managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg’s Minneapolis office. “In this evolving environment, companies are seeking legal advice that is both sound and practical, but also grounded in trusted technical and industrial knowledge. Scott and Jeff possess these qualities, and we expect they’ll be invaluable resources not only to clients, but to their peers here at the firm.”
