LOS ANGELES – Jason Karlov and Brian Schall have been recognized in Billboard Magazine’s 2024 Top Music Lawyers list. The list recognizes top private practice and in-house music lawyers who work with the music industry’s rising artists, songwriters and superstars.
Karlov, partner and chair of the firm’s Entertainment, Media and Sports Practice Group, handles music, sports, advertising and entertainment deals for top live events, artists and organizations. Billboard recognized Karlov’s work in accomplishing a longtime goal of musician John Fogerty to repurchase the rights to the Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog.
When speaking with Billboard about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the industry, Karlov said, “Wait and see how it all shakes out, and, in the meantime, protect yourself as much as possible. These are valuable future rights that are currently being addressed, and we will see them play out over time.”
Schall, a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office, was recognized for his representation of songwriters, electronic artists, social content creators and entertainment entrepreneurs in connection with handling their entertainment work.
Billboard’s Top Music Lawyers are selected by editors based on factors such as the stature of their clients as measured by year-end Billboard charts; sales and streaming performance; market share; revenue; social media impressions; and radio audiences.
