OVERVIEW

Doug Gramiak provides tactical communications and guidance to clients regarding a range of government relations matters. A veteran public affairs and political consultant, his perspective and political lens are invaluable for clients navigating challenging political and policy issues in Delaware.

Doug understands the intricacies and complications businesses are facing when dealing with government regulations, and can help provide thoughtful and targeted counsel, particularly as a result of having held strategic roles at the highest levels of state government, and serving as the director of an education nonprofit and as the political editor for Delaware newspaper, The News Journal.

As chief of staff to then-Delaware Gov. John Carney from 2017 to 2019, Doug advised on policy, legislative and political matters while managing 16 cabinet members and a staff of 35. He communicated and negotiated with members of the General Assembly and acted as liaison with trade organizations and stakeholder groups. Doug also served as Gov. Carney’s chief of staff when he was lieutenant governor and a U.S. representative.

Doug coordinated numerous campaigns over more than 30 years as a political organizer with the Democratic Party. He provided senior leadership and counsel for several races, including John Carney’s run for the U.S. House of Representatives and for Delaware lieutenant governor, and served as campaign chairman in his successful 2016 gubernatorial bid. Doug served on the finance staff for Paul Simon’s 1988 presidential campaign and worked on multiple campaigns for six-term Congressman Bob Edgar (D-PA).

In leadership at The News Journal, Doug managed staff reporters and oversaw all political coverage, including the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia and the 2000 election for U.S. Senate. He later became executive director of Education Voters of Delaware, a nonprofit that built grassroots support to improve Delaware’s public education system.

Outside of the office, Doug enjoys watching just about any sport, though he’s a particularly passionate fan of Philadelphia sports teams and the Tottenham Hotspur. He also loves music, especially Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and running, hiking and biking.
