In recognition of its pro bono work, Barnes & Thornburg was named 2022 Pro Bono Partner of the Year by Koch Industries. This is the second year in a row that the firm has received this award, with last year being the award’s inaugural year.

The award was presented by the company for the second year as part of its commitment to philanthropy, and for the second year Barnes & Thornburg received the top award.

The Pro Bono Partner of the Year award was presented at an event hosted by Koch on Nov. 7, where Koch Industries’ Vice President and General Counsel, Ray Geoffroy, shared this about Barnes & Thornburg:

“For the second year running, Barnes & Thornburg has stepped up and led by example to show what good looks like when it comes to partnering with Koch and the non-profit, Stand Together, to improve the lives of the least advantaged by removing barriers to opportunity through our various pro bono initiatives. Having provided more than 3,000 hours of work, an effort worth more than $2 million dollars since our partnership began, we commend and applaud Barnes & Thornburg for aligning with Charles Koch’s vision that ‘Progress will come as more people stop looking at the least fortunate as problems to be managed or controlled and start seeing them as individuals who have contributions to make.’ We are honored, once more, to have named Barnes & Thornburg our 2022 Pro Bono Partner of the Year and look forward to continuing our relationship and building on these efforts in the future.”

In 2020, Barnes & Thornburg made a commitment of 10,000 pro bono hours over three years to support Stand Together Catalyst organizations, a philanthropic community founded by Charles Koch. Since that time, Barnes & Thornburg has provided over 3,300 hours of work by more than 175 lawyers totaling $2 million in value, with virtually every department and office participating. A number of Catalyst organizations have benefitted from this work including those helping to break the cycle of incarceration, aid in the recovery from a substance use disorder, increase graduation rates and empower students with hands-on, real-world work experience.

The firm’s commitment, which includes all 22 offices and every legal department, was led by firm partner Jim Leonard with the assistance of Pro Bono Committee chair, Michael Battle and firm partner Adam Hollander.

With more than 800 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from offices in Atlanta, Boston, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, Texas and Washington, D.C.
