A native of L.A. and being a musician herself, Amanda really understands her clients’ needs. She is well-suited to advise and represent them in working to maintain their rights and to obtain the best possible outcomes in the course of various transactions.
On a day-to-day basis, Amanda manages both clients’ needs and their related projects – taking care of the particulars from intake to closure on virtually all fronts. She helps her clients assess the risks and rewards of potential transactions, advises on protecting, maintaining and/or recapturing their rights, and identifies issues of exposure and then works with her colleagues as necessary – including throughout the other practices in the firm – to provide an efficient, well-rounded and inclusive approach to her clients’ matters. That is a particular advantage for her clients, in that Barnes & Thornburg offers them experience and attention of a boutique firm, with the access to all that a large firm has to offer.
Amanda is responsible for a great deal of drafting, reviewing, counseling, and advocating for her clients. Her experience includes virtually all areas of music, e.g. publishing (representing writers and publishers), recording (representing artists and record labels), intellectual property rights (including copyright), merchandising, touring, and personal appearances; live events, including contract negotiation; social media , including brands’ and influencers’ endorsements and music licensing work; and podcasting, including content creation, production and talent agreements.
Where copyright reversion is an option for clients, Amanda assists in guiding her clients through the statutory reversion process by reviewing and analyzing termination dates, serving notices of termination and recording notices of termination with the U.S. Copyright Office to help her clients regain their copyrights.
Additionally, she provides advice where technology meets entertainment, specifically in matters of music licensing, where she handles rights-related needs. She is there to ensure her clients have the rights they need from an IP perspective, as they build out their applications and platforms, or to provide analysis and advice regarding those IP rights that her clients have and what they need as their businesses grow.
Amanda prides herself on being there for her clients, regardless of what arises for them.
Beyond her practice, Amanda is a home chef and baker, a singer/songwriter and was a classical and jazz musician growing up.
