Kristen represents clients in export control and sanctions matters and in antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) proceedings. She also advises clients regarding customs, Section 301 duties, and trade policy.
Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, Kristen was an attorney in the Office of the Chief Counsel for Trade Enforcement and Compliance at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In that role, she primarily litigated numerous international trade cases before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Kristen also represented the United States in matters before the World Trade Organization. Her work in at the Department of Commerce touched on numerous industries, including steel, aluminum, fish, agricultural commodities, and solar cells. She also previously worked for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative as a legal fellow.
Because of her prior experience serving in the federal government, Kristen has the ability to explain the regulatory process to her clients in a way that makes it easier to grasp, which allows her to more efficiently assist them.
Currently, Kristen is a member of the team assisting the Special Compliance Coordinator appointed by the U.S. Department of Commerce in the monitorship of Zhongxing Telecommunications Equipment Corporation, of Shenzhen, China, and ZTE Kangxun Telecommunications Ltd. of Hi-New Shenzhen, China (collectively, ZTE).
