WASHINGTON, D.C. – Barnes & Thornburg has added healthcare litigation, investigations, and compliance partners John Kelly and Jacquelyn Papish and associate A.J. Bolan to its Washington, D.C., office. Kelly will serve as chair of the firm’s Healthcare Department and Healthcare Industry Practice.
Kelly joins Barnes & Thornburg following a decade as a managing partner of the Washington, D.C., office of Bass, Berry & Sims, where he represented companies and individuals in healthcare enforcement, regulatory, and compliance matters and served as co-chair of the Compliance and Government Investigations practice. Prior to his move to private practice, Kelly was a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice where he held several leadership positions including serving as the Assistant Chief for Healthcare Fraud in the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and lead prosecutor for the Medicare Fraud Strike Force in Los Angeles.

An accomplished attorney with close to a decade of experience, Papish has represented clients in a range of high-stakes commercial litigation matters, including companies throughout the healthcare and technology sectors. She has experience in government and internal investigations, complex civil litigation, and white collar criminal defense – with a focus on matters related to healthcare fraud and abuse and other regulatory compliance issues. Rounding out the team, Bolan counsels clients on a variety of healthcare fraud matters including Medicare and Medicaid compliance, the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, and the Stark Law.

Kelly earned his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School and his B.A. from the University of Rochester.
Papish earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, and her B.A., with distinction, from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Bolan earned their J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and a B.S. from Santa Clara University.
