By combining public records, social media and governmental registrations, Mark performs a “public records polygraph,” by examining executive teams, patent and trademark filings, SEC filings and other public records to create a behavioral profile of his clients to identify their financial and legal inclinations, often providing recommendations resulting in successful business strategies or cost savings. He outlines companies’ legal tendencies and operational behaviors to allow them to understand what is useful and what is extraneous among their assets and portfolios, so they can see the synergies between their technologies and financial investments.

Leveraging his deep background in and knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning tools, alongside his decades of corporate, executive and legal experience, Mark offers actionable information so that his clients not only know the challenges they are facing, but also can avoid similar problems down the road.

Early in his career, Mark spent more than a decade as an assistant general counsel and chief intellectual property counsel for various divisions of Thomson Reuters (and its predecessor), where his responsibilities included managing high-volume M&A, driving innovation by harvesting and protecting IP associated with software and high-value data and analytics, as well as providing primary intellectual property legal support for business development, contracts, editorial, and technology areas in the business’ financial services, healthcare, and legal information groups. Mark also served on various executive committees that drove investment in acquisitions, emerging business development and new product development across a multiple marketplaces.
Mark earned his J.D. while working for Alliant Techsystems, and previously he had completed postgraduate work in robotics and control systems at the University of Minnesota and National Technological University while working at Honeywell, Inc.
Further, Mark is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP). He offers his insights through dozens of webinars annually and serves as a regular lecturer at colleges and universities across the state of Minnesota. He also is a frequent speaker at for various associations and conferences, including Reel Lawyer, Black Hills IP Analytics Series, LES International, Practicing Law Institute, and more.
