With over three decades of experience, John has represented lenders, borrowers, syndicators, investors and developers on behalf of complex commercial transactions.
John has experience acquiring, financing and selling various real estate assets amounting to more than $8 billion. He has structured and negotiated numerous real estate transactions involving both taxable and tax-free exchanges of real estate assets for cash, common and preferred stock, as well as common and preferred operating partnership units.
John has represented real estate opportunity investment funds and real estate investment trusts in transactions involving commercial real estate properties and portfolios, including commercial office, multifamily, retail, hotel and industrial properties.
In addition, John has represented opportunity funds as the “money partner” in preferred equity transactions involving a joint venture structure in the acquisition of real estate. He has acted as underwriter’s counsel in initial public offerings and represented various institutional lenders and issuers of multi-property mortgage-backed securities in transactions aggregating to more than $2 billion.
Prior to joining the firm, John was a partner at an AmLaw 200 law firm in Atlanta in its real estate development and finance, capital markets, commercial finance, and funds and alternative investments matters group. Before coming to Atlanta, John had a successful practice in New York City in commercial real estate financing.
