INDIANAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg presented service awards to five attorneys and staff members for their commitment to community, the firm’s pro bono efforts, diversity and inclusion activities, and mentoring program. A new award was introduced in 2022, the Barnes & Thornburg Client Service Award.
The 2022 honorees are:
Amy Fix, a partner in the firms Raleigh, N.C. office, is the recipient of the Joseph A. Maley Award, presented to the person who makes an impact in the pro bono arena. Fix is a member of the firm’s Koch Industries Pro Bono team and has actively engaged with nonprofits, including the D.C. Compassionate Release Program, The Nature Conservancy, Dream Chasing d/b/a Dream Academy, and A Complete Unknown. The award was established in memory of firm partner John R. Maley’s oldest son, Joseph, who passed away in 2008.
For his mentoring accomplishments, Joel Meyer, a partner in the Los Angeles office, is the recipient of the Kenneth H. Inskeep Mentoring Award. Several of Meyer’s firm colleagues mentioned his efforts to support colleagues – from younger associates to partners. Meyer often encourages colleagues to think more strategically and take ownership of projects; provides guidance on marketing and brand development; and gives feedback on work product, among other topics.
Alan Mills, a partner in the firm’s Indianapolis office, is the recipient of the Camille Conway Diversity Award. Named after the late Chicago partner Camille Conway, the award recognizes those in the firm who best demonstrate a commitment to diversity by cultivating and promoting initiatives that establish, foster and maintain a more inclusive and equitable work environment. As the first Black partner at the firm, Mills has been a mentor to several attorneys who have worked at the firm and has been involved in numerous efforts promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the firm’s offices.
The Commitment to Community Award was presented to Amy Kintz, who is senior marketing services manager for the South Bend and Elkhart offices. Kintz uses her creative mind to develop and put into action several activities in those offices. One of those activities is the “Food Truck Philanthropy” events that partner the firm with nonprofit organizations that had been negatively affected by the pandemic. She also is on the board of directors of Ronald McDonald Charities Michiana and is active in other local organizations.
Jim Murdica, a partner and chair of the firm’s product liability and mass torts practice, is the inaugural recipient of the firm’s Client Service Award for his persistence in creating, maintaining and building on relationships with his practice’s clients. The Client Service Award recognizes individuals or teams who have consistently demonstrated exceptional client service through being client-focused, a provider of the highest quality of legal services, and demonstrating professional behavior and collaboration.
